Shah Faisal of Kashmir role model for the youth of India, and particularly the Muslim Youth.

Dr. Shah Faisal

Shah Faisal, a Doctor from Jamu and Kashmir, resident of Srinagar, topped Indian Administrative Examinations in India.

Breaking several myths and overcoming rather complicated geo-political situation around him, Shah Faesal, a doctor from Srinagar, has topped India’s top civil services examination 2009. Faesal, who prepared at Hamdard Study Circle, is at No. 1 among 875 successful candidates. The result was announced on 7th May 2010.

What is more striking about Faisal and his current achievement that he was a socially active youngster. He has been an active member of the RTI movement in Jammu Kashmir.

Faisal was coached by Saiyid Hamid, a retired officer of the Indian Administrative Service (IAS) and former vice chancellor of Aligarh Muslim University. Hamid now is secretary of the New Delhi-based Hamdard Education Society, which runs the Hamdard Study Circle. It was there that Faisal received his coaching.

Hamid was absolutely thrilled by his student’s success. “The Hamdard Study Circle has been in operation since 1991, and we have had many successes in the past. More than 220 students have qualified from our institute. The best result was when one of our students secured fourth place at the All-India level,” he said.

“However, nothing matches Faesal’s success. This is great news for us all,” he said.

Shah Faisal’s success story reminds the country yet again that adversities in life fail to destroy the determination of the strong.

A total of 875 candidates — 680 men and 195 women — were recommended for appointment to Indian Administrative Service, Indian Foreign Service, Indian Police Service and other central services. Besides Faesal, there are 20 Muslims on the list of 875 successful candidates. Among them are Mohammed Y. Safeerullah, Mohammed Shahid Alam, Rayees Mohammed Bhat, Muhammad Siddique Alam, Abid Khan, Abu Imran, Ashiquzzaman, Tamanna Alam, Mohammed Yusuf Qureshi, Mir Umair Nabi, Danish Ashraf, K. Asif Hafeez and Rizwan Ahmed.

A total of 409,110 students applied to take the test in 2009. Of those 193,091 appeared for the preliminary examination. Only 12,026 of them qualified for the written test, and then only 2,432 of them were short-listed for the all-important personality test, which was conducted in March and April this year.

Shah Faisal is a story of determination and reslove to fight against the odds, and face the world with a determined mind to make place to progress, in fields which generally are discarded by the Minority Community as Not a worth try, due to Myth that the Muslims of India will not be give a fair chance to reach to the postions of power in Indian Services.

Shah has proved them all wrong, by is determined effort, to excel so are the other 20 Muslims who qualified have proved by getting selected. Though the numbers are very  low, in a 835 selected only 21 are Muslims.  If we go through the statistics of participation by the Minorities and Specifically Muslim the paritcipation as such is very low. And when enquired by the authorities there are clear images of non participation by them in good numbers.  We know the results are proportionate to numbers participated.

The big challenge is how to increse the numbers of Muslims and other Minorities paricipate in the compititive examinations in big numbers and across the Nation. There are many Study Circle and Coaching Intitutes to train student and encourage them to participate. This effort has to mulitplied and  spreaded participation has to happen, with a great focus by the Communities.

There is a possibility there can be a difficulty in the initial stages of the compition but the result of Faisal has proved all those who think the authorities in a planned manner discourage or put to disadvantage the Minorities is has to be given a re think and understand we will this theory with value had there been a proper participation with big numbers.

Faisal and many such who passed and have excelled in services should be the role models to motivate the youth of the nation more importantly the Muslims and the other Minorities, and right talent is put in the fray of these comitivie examination to make mark,  thus showing way forward the otherwise suffering, under performed, disadvantaged Minorities of  India.

The Ranganth Commisision and Sachar Committee clearly indicated the socio economic conditions of the Minorities in the Country, in Particular the Muslim Minoriteis. In some area the representation is almost negligible. The only way is a joint effort by the Community and the authrities to break this and allow them to be active participants in the Main Stream by empowering them thru rightfull involment and place in the Administrative Services in Positions of Power and Performance.

The families  should focus, to produce in each family there has to be  at least  one in Service from  each Minorities Family.  We motivate our children to do Doctorate, MBA, Engineering,  Reach out to the American Universities , now it is high time we all need to  make this a point to induct at least one of our family member in to Services.  This is one big way to bring the needed change in the living Conditions of the Minorities of India.

And face the challenges of 21st Cenrutry with Confidence.

    Hello,
Your article is really encouraging among the minority kids, we need to break this myth that muslim kid cant perform well in the competetive exam, i would like to say special thanks to Saiyid Hamid for making this thing possible, he is doing good jobs , there are very few people like him in our community , May allah give him more good result in his effort , there is lot of raw talent in our communty specially UP and Bihar, that need to be polished . once again i want to congratulate Saiyid Hamid

I agree with Amim, Kudos to Saiyid Hamid and Faisal. I am hopeful that Faisal will follow his teachers footsteps. However, there might be a lot more retired muslim IAS officers who can help youngsters from the community, just 1 Saiyid Hamid is not enough, we should try to put a system in place to find more of them and to run more such programs/institutes encouraging young muslims to actively participate and contribute to the society.
