Qutub Minar is ready, Is Delhi ready. To host biggest sporting event ever in India “Common Wealth Games 2010”.

CWC masot is happy and is impatiently waiting for Oct to come to receive the delegations and players for the biggest sports event ever hosted by India with 1.6 biillion US dollars worth. Is Delhi Ready. FIFI gave a thumps up to South Africa, will it be thumps us for India in CWG. It is to be seen.

The 2010 Commonwealth Games are the nineteenth Commonwealth Games, and the ninth to be held under that name. The Games are scheduled to be held in Delhi, India between 3 October and 14 October

The opening ceremony is scheduled to take place at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Delhi. It will also be the first time the Commonwealth Games will be held in India and the second time the event has been held in Asia (after 1998 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia).

The total budget estimated for hosting the Games is US$ 1.6 billion and this amount excludes non-sports-related infrastructure development in the city like airports, roads and other structures. This will likely make the 2010 Commonwealth Games the most expensive Commonwealth Games ever, being larger than the previous games in Melborne in 2006 (approx. US$ 1.1 billion).

All this is good, but how ready Delhi is for the Mega Event which will be commencing in the month of October 2010 in New Delhi, will it embrass us or will it add a feather in our cap is to be seen.

Few Facts listed below.
1. Out of 70 Kms of pavements, only 3 kms of pavement is ready 67 kms is yet to be made in 60 days. Which mean more than a km of pavement has to be done each day?

2. Out of 24 Flyovers only 15 are ready, remaining 9 flyovers work is in progress a fly over 2 kms from the main venue of CWG has 120 spans of to be laid with precast members even if we assume each day a span will be laid, and the Contractor requires 120 days of time, which means 4 months more.

3. Landscaping works are in lakhs of sq fts, out of which the land scalping work to a percentage of 15% is taken up around the venues so far, this may require months to finish.

4. The authorities are in blame game, some blame it on the lack of timely funds availability, and some blame it to the lethargy in the departments who are taken up the task of getting it done in time.

5. Worry is in such situations always the quality of construction and the inspection mechanism comes under enormous pressure and there are mistake that are bound to happen and quality sacrificed.

6. The Monsoon seasons is on a long spells of rain will reduce the days in hand to complete the remaining unfinished works.

My question is why are we in habit of leaving things to be completed in rushing under pressure and immense uncertainty and embarrassment to the concern authorities, Indian Nation and we the people ?

Critics will blast us on this failure to be comfortable in meeting the dead line.

The govt is confident the CM of Delhi is cool and is confident things will be over in time, Yes Madam Sheila Dixit it will be hopefully. But why after hue and cry and immense answering and facing the criticism form media, authorities and public.

Oh I forget we want to take the gold medal in best performers who perform only when there is criticism and pressure in face of embarrassment to the Nation.

Sorry Madam Sheila and the Sports Ministery and Mr. Suresh Kalmadi. Please do not embarass us Indians, we already have a big burden of embrasment on various issues
